Burgers and beer always go well together. Today I prepared a chilli cheese burger and paired it with an India Pale Ale. I formed two patties from the 250 grams of beef and topped them with cheddar cheese from Ireland. In addition to jalapenos, the burger sauce with chilli flakes provided plenty of heat. I didn’t choose a pale ale to go with the burger, which also came as a double-decker, but its big brother, India Pale Ale. Hop bitterness goes very well with spicy dishes and balances out the spiciness. That worked really well here. Because the spiciness lingered a little longer, I immediately opened a second beer. Better safe than sorry.
The India Pale Ale comes from the brewery Ale-Mania in Bonn. Under the name IPA Mania, it is a true classic of the domestic craft beer world. After all, Fritz Wülfing, founder of the brewery, is one of the best-known pioneers of the German craft beer movement. Tomorrow, Ale-Mania will also be celebrating the first anniversary of the taproom in Bonn-Pützchen. Even if IPA Mania isn’t on the taplist this time, it’s always worth a visit on Friday evening to kick off the weekend. My verdict: it’s a match! I give the beer-food pairing 5 out of 5 points. Cheers & bon appétit!
